“Tell no one what I’ve given you.”
Until he got that cryptic warning, Christopher Rowe was happy, learning how to solve complex codes and puzzles and creating powerful medicines, potions, and weapons as an apprentice to Master Benedict Blackthorn—with maybe an explosion or two along the way.
But when a mysterious cult begins to prey on London’s apothecaries, the trail of murders grows closer and closer to Blackthorn’s shop. With time running out, Christopher must use every skill he’s learned to discover the key to a terrible secret with the power to tear the world apart.
In his stunning debut novel, Kevin Sands brings readers on a heart-stopping adventure rich with suspense, mystery, and unforgettable characters.

When I read the back of this book I thought it would be interesting but after I started reading the book I found it to be BORING! I could not really understand the beginning and I quit reading the book after a couple of chapters. The Blackthorn Key is just not a book for me. The previous books I read from Silver Birch Fiction were much, much, MUCH better. I thought that since the last two books I read from this section were amazing this one would be too. It says this book is for people that like decoding puzzles but I think I am not that type of person. Some of my friends like coding and these sort of things so I am going to recommend this book to them. I do not think I would be interested in reading another book from this author.
When I first took this book out and read the back of The Blackthorn Key, I thought it was gonna be an amazing story. And it was, actually! Christopher Rowe is a fourteen-year-old boy who came out of the orphan place. He was happy after his Master, Master Benedict took him out of there. He was with his Master for 3 years. During that, he has a friend named Tom, (Thomas Bailey). Tom and Christopher go through a lot of adventures together (including the gunpowder explosion). Later, it's Christopher's birthday. Master Benedict gives him a special cube. Master Benedict writes his special recipes in a code that Christopher knows, and there's a paper that Christopher was given to understand those codes. But later on, the Cult of assassins are on the loose, murdering victims. Christopher gets in trouble and delivers some things, but when he comes back, he sees the worst thing ever. Master Benedict was murdered by the Cult. A lot of people died in this book, and it kinda made me sad. This book is a book about decoding secret codes, puzzles, and all that. What I liked about The Blackthorn Key is that its a story about adventure. What I disliked about The Blackthorn Key is that a lot of people died and it was a bit of a sad story! Kevin Sands is the author of the Blackthorn Key series. I really want the next book of the series to be in Silver Birch!
